Thieves Break Into Cars While Worshipers Hold Christmas Eve Service

Members of a Johnston County church came together last Sunday morning for a special Christmas Eve worship service. While they were inside their church, thieves were rummaging through their cars in the church parking lot.

At least three vehicles parked outside Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church on Highway 96 South at Blackman’s Crossroads outside of Four Oaks were forcibly entered during the 11:00am worship service.

Purses and wallets were taken from the vehicles.

One member of Blackman’s Grove said the suspect shattered the glass window on her Dodge van and stolen $254 in items. Another member reported $257 in cash and other goods stolen.

One worshiper reported hearing a car door shut just minutes before the services ended around 12:00 Noon.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the parking lot of Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church on Highway 96 South between 11:00am and 12:00 Noon last Sunday, Dec. 24th is asked to contact the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office at 919-989-5000.

In unrelated incidents, a car was broken into on West Main Street in Benson on Dec. 22nd. On Dec. 27th, $400 in items were stolen during a car break-in outside Lowe’s Home Improvements on Cleveland Crossings Drive off NC 42 at I-40.
