Police say they have persons of interest in the theft of expensive copper gutters stolen from two churches and a senior apartment complex in Downtown Smithfield.
On Monday, the First Baptist Church, located at 202 South Fourth Street, reported someone had removed 6 sections of gutters worth about $1,000. The thieves also left behind about $1,000 in damage. The theft occurred sometime between June 1st and June 13th.
Also Monday, four gutters valued at $600 were discovered missing from the Austin Manor Apartments at 129 South Third Street. The theft occurred between June 8 and June 15. Damage to the building was placed at $500.
And between May 30th and June 12th thieves stolen copper gutters valued at $2,000 from the St. Pauls Episcopal Church, located at 218 South Second Street.
Police Captain R.K. Powell told WTSB News on Tuesday the three cases have been assigned to the detectives division and could be linked.
