Thieves Target Rural Churches

For the third time this month, thieves have targeted a rural church in Johnston County.

On Saturday, members of the Beulah Baptist Church at 3140 Highway 242 South, Dunn  reported someone had cut the catalytic converter off their Ford church bus.   Later that night, deputies discovered where the catalytic converter had been cut off the church bus parked at Calvary Baptist Church at 283 Highway 55, Dunn near the Harnett County line.

On December 1st we reported the theft of a catalytic converter and two oxygen sensors taken off the church van at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church on Piney Grove Church Road near Angier.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has not ruled out all three thefts could be related.

Churches are encouraged to keep their parking lots well-lit and if possible install security cameras.
