Three Arrested For Defrauding Jail Inmate

Three people, including an inmate in the county jail, are accused of scamming another prisoner.

Joseph Lynn Johnson, 26, of the 4500 block of US 301 South, Four Oaks, an inmate in the Johnston County Jail, allegedly used the name and jail identification number of another male prisoner on a document allowing for the release of the victims debit card.

Johnson-Coates-Edwards-Mugshots-FIKayla Elizabeth Coates, 20, of the 600 block of Wood Street, Selma picked up the debit card from jail, authorities said.  Destiny Nicole Edwards, 18, of Robin Hood Lane, Four Oaks reportedly used the card to obtain $300, all without the victims knowledge or permission.

Johnson, Coates and Edwards were charged with obtaining property by false pretenses and felony conspiracy.

Johnson has been in jail since his arrest on March 10th by Wilson’s Mills Police on numerous drug related offenses. He is also charged with parole violation.
