A man wanted by probation and parole led deputies on a three county chase before crashing his truck in southern Johnston County. The truck then burst into flames.
It started early Sunday morning when Sampson County interdiction team deputies attempted to stop a pickup truck for a traffic violation on Green Path Road in northern Sampson County. The driver failed to stop.
The chase entered Harnett County and then back into Johnston County. Deputies deployed stop sticks causing the driver to travel off Wood’s Crossroads Road into a farm field. The pickup struck a fence post and burst into flames. The driver, Danny Gregory Jr., 47, of Erwin Chapel Road, Godwin attempted to flee on foot but was immediately apprehended.
The Meadow Fire Department responded and extinguished the burning pickup.
Sampson County Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith said Gregory was charged with numerous offenses including felony speeding to elude arrest, driving on a revoked license and reckless driving. No injuries were reported.
