Tips In Homicide Case Lead To Search For Evidence Along Highway

Deputies from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office along with a dive team from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, conduct a search for evidence at the bridge on N.C. Highway 55 at the Sampson-Hartnett County line on Wednesday. The deputies spent much of the day at the location.

Investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office were searching for evidence in a homicide investigation near an N.C. Highway 55/Harnett-Dunn Highway bridge over Mingo Swamp Wednesday.

Lt. Marcus Smith said the search near the Sampson-Harnett County line was initiated by tips to the department regarding the recent slaying of 29-year-old Belinda Davis, who was found dead inside her home at 5423 Harnett-Dunn Highway on Jan. 10.

Officers asked drivers to either avoid the area or use extreme caution when approaching the area around the bridge. Shortly after noon, officers were also combing the sides of the road east of the bridge.

Detectives were “searching for evidence related to a criminal investigation,” Smith said.

Deputies with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office were assisted by a dive team from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators charged 23-year-old Darrius Blue of 100 Deerfield Lane in Dunn with murder in the case. He is being held in the Sampson County Detention Center with no bond.
