SELMA – A couple and their small dog traveling from Florida to New York suffered a right-front tire blowout Sunday afternoon on Interstate 95 near Selma. They narrowly avoided tumbling down an embankment. Luckily, no one was injured.

The woman passenger said it sounded like an explosion when the tire blew out. “My husband did all he could to keep it on the road,” she said.

The 40-foot RV towing a Toyota SUV crashed into a guardrail just prior to Exit 98.

The front windshield came out when they impacted the guardrail which was a good thing, she said. “We had to climb out through the front because the door was jammed.”

The RV suffered major damage and was likely beyond repair, according to the owners. The guardrail had become tangled in the undercarriage, severely damaging it.

“Our whole lives are in there,” the woman said, pointing to what had been their home-on-wheels. They planned to stay in a local hotel, Sunday night.
