Town of Clayton Work Session

The town of Clayton held a work session Monday night and covered an array of topics that will be voted on during their November council meeting. During the work session council members voted to give Police C. Blair Myhand the green light to replace a Clayton patrol car that was declared a total loss due to a hail storm last month. The storm produced golf ball size hail that damaged multiple vehicles in the area. Chief Myhand’s goal is to have the vehicle replaced by the end of the year.

A proclamation in recognition of the month of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month was read by Mayor Pro-Tem Michael Grannis. According to the American Cancer Society, 1.6 million people are diagnosed with cancer each year with cancer and 589,000 cancer-related deaths occur.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, everyone is encourage to promote the safety of women, men and children who are subjected to violent, intimidating or controlling behavior at the hands of those closest to them.  The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) is offering resources to help educate parents, caregivers, families, educators, professionals and policy makers about domestic violence and its impact on children and families. Recently Mayor Jody McLeod was contact by the ABC network in Los Angles to help be a part of a promo for their new show called the “Mayor”. Mayor McLeod was chosen along with other Mayor’s from Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, Utah and City Mesa Arizona. “I can relate to the show because, I remember when I ran for Mayor and was elected. I thought, what am I going to do. What have I gotten myself into,”  Mayor McLeod said. He filmed the promo spot with his mother Mavorine McLeod inside the office of the Clayton police chief. Mayor McLeod does not have an office because he gave it up so town employees could have the space. “Mayor” airs each Tuesday night at 9:30pm on ABC.

The next Town Council meeting will be held Monday, November 6 at 6:30pm.
