The family of the late Daniel Lionel Sanders was remembered during the October meeting of the Smithfield Town Council.
Sanders died on September 10th. He served on the Smithfield Planning Board for 11 years and was a member of the Smithfield Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission for 8 years.
In a proclamation presented to his family from Mayor Pro Tem Travis Scott, the town praised Sanders for his devotion to town government, and his respect, admiration and friendship to the citizens and town staff through his humble leadership and kindness.
“He loved our community,” his widow Regina Sanders said while accepting the proclamation. “He took his job with the planning board to heart. I truly miss him. He is with the Lord and is in a better place.”
Regina Sanders was also recognized by the Town Council for serving 11 years on the Appearance Commission and her dedication.
