Currently, the Town of Smithfield has only one main water line serving residents in West Smithfield. To improve the reliability of water service to the West Smithfield area, the Town has awarded a $750,000 contract to install a second main water line to the community.
The town has awarded a contract to JF Wilkerson Contracting Company Inc. to build a 16 inch line from US70 along Durwood Stephenson Road and end just east of the intersection of Durwood Stephenson Highway and Wilson’s Mills Road.
The Town will fund $250,000 of the costs. A $500,000 grant from the Golden Leaf Foundation will pay for the remainder of the project. JF Wilkerson was the low bidder for the project.
