Towson Defeats Camels In Season Finale 45-23

BUIES CREEK – Towson used a 24-point fourth quarter to top Campbell 45-23 on Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium in the regular season finale for both teams.

The Tigers won their third straight to improved to 7-5 on the season and 5-3 in CAA games, while Campbell finishes its 2024 campaign at 3-9 overall and 1-7 in CAA play.

Towson led 21-16 heading into the fourth quarter before exploding for three touchdowns in 1:10, including two from Tyrell Greene Jr., taking advantage of a CU interception and then recovering an on-side kick before Keegan Vaughn added a 41-yard field goal.

Greene rushed for three scores for the Tigers, totaling 41 yards on nine carries, while Devin Matthews ran for a game-high 134 yards on 15 carries with another touchdown. Sean Brown, meanwhile, completed 10-of-15 passes for 156 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

John Giola and Will Middleton both totaled seven tackles for the Tigers, with Middleton adding an interception.

For Campbell, Sincere Brown collected 64 yards with a touchdown on four catches, while Mark Biggins rushed for 60 yards and a score on 15 carries. Mike Chandler II also completed 13-of-27 passes for 135 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, adding 39 yards on the ground.

Connor Lytton made 3-of-5 field goal tries for CU, including first quarter kicks of 47 and 42 yards.

Jalen Brooks tallied his fourth double-figure tackle game with 13 stops, including 1.0 tackle for loss, with a fumble recovery, while Logan Livermon added 10 tackles with 1.5 for loss and an interception.

Brooks finished his first year as a Camel with 118 tackles, a Campbell single-season record, passing Justice Galloway-Velasquez’ previous mark of 111, set in 2019. The 100-tackle season is the third in Campbell’s history (Jack Ryan, 103 in 2017).

Brown also notched a record-setting season, becoming the third Camel ever to surpass 1,000 yards receiving in a single year. The Charleston, S.C. native’s 1,028 rank third on CU’s single-season charts (Caleb Snead, 1,067 in 2021; Aaron Blockmon, 1,038 in 2016). With another TD against Towson, Brown also extended his Campbell single-season receiving scores record with his 12th touchdown.

The fourth quarter touchdown from Chandler to Brown marked Campbell’s 23rd passing touchdown of the season, tying the school record previously set in 2021.

  1. And all that money for an embarrassing season and new coach. Imagine if they did away with that team, they might have enough to update the dorms that we pay so much for our kids to live in.

    • As someone who attends there, you are not wrong. The campus is suffering unless it’s SGA or their precious teams. Departments are losing professors, more money put into stupid events and clubs, library lacking study spaces, and I can keep going.
