The Highway Patrol is investigating an accident Monday night that shut down the westbound lanes of US70 for several hours.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the crash on US70 East at Peedin Road near Pine Level. A white van apparently turned into the path of a westbound tractor trailer. The driver of the van then reportedly fled on foot. A passenger was taken by ambulance to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield.
The semi driver was not hurt.
The Highway Patrol, Pine Level Police, Micro Police, and Princeton Police Departments responded to the scene to assist with traffic control and the search for the driver who fled.
Westbound lanes were closed to an extended period of time while a replacement semi was brought to the scene and the damaged semi was towed away.
