SMITHFIELD – A northbound tractor trailer driver dove off I-95 in Smithfield this morning (Wednesday) and overturned on the right shoulder. The single vehicle accident with no injuries occurred near the 94.5 mile marker.
The Smithfield Fire Department, Johnston County EMS, NC Department of Transportation, and State Highway Patrol responded. The Ohio driver was arrested and charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving on a commercial motor vehicle.

Northbound traffic was reduced to a single lane for several hours while crews worked to remove the semi.
At least one minor fender bender was reported just south of the overturned truck as traffic backed up on the interstate. There were no injuries in the second accident.
