Update: The Highway Patrol has identified the deceased driver as Tyrese Makell Shaw, 16, of Angier.
BENSON – A 16 year-old driver died in a single vehicle accident this morning (Thursday) in southwestern Johnston County.
The Highway Patrol said the accident happened at 7:15am in the 3000 block of County Line Road at the Johnston-Harnett County line.
The teen driver lost control of his vehicle in a curve, drove off the right side of the road, overcorrected then slid into tree debris on the right side of the road and was ejected from his car. The 16 year-old driver died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
A passenger in the vehicle was transported to Wake Medical Center for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers have not released the name of the teenager who died.
