Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to close an Interstate 40 East exit ramp overnight this week so traffic can be safely shifted onto a new ramp.
Weather permitting, crews will close the ramp from I-40 East onto U.S. 70 (Exit 309) Thursday, Aug. 15 at 10 p.m. and reopen the new exit at 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16.
Traffic will detour by continuing I-40 East and exiting onto N.C. 42 East to access U.S. 70.
Drivers should remain alert and plan for potential delays while using detours.
