FOUR OAKS – A tractor trailer driver is facing charges following an accident Thursday morning on the Interstate 95 exit ramp at US701/301 (Exit 90).
The State Highway Patrol said the driver was traveling southbound and attempted to exit while exceeding a safe speed. The flat bed trailer overturned but the truck did not.
The trailer was loaded with approximately 20,000 pounds of bagged mortar mix. The truck was traveling from Roanoke Rapids to Four Oaks and was less than a mile away from its destination when the accident occurred.
No injuries were reported. The driver was cited for failing to maintain lane control.
The exit ramp was closed for more than two hours before reopening.
The State Highway Patrol, NC Department of Transportation and Four Oaks Fire Department responded.
