RALEIGH — State Treasurer Brad Briner announced Wednesday that year-end tax documents for retirees and benefit recipients are now available. The North Carolina Retirement Systems (RSD) has released 382,101 electronic 1099-R and W-2 documents well ahead of schedule.
By law, the North Carolina Retirement Systems Division (RSD) has until Jan. 31 of each year to generate the 1099-R and W-2 tax forms that are required for retirement and disability benefit recipients to file their taxes. This year, however, the North Carolina Retirement Services Division was able to load 373,341 tax forms on Jan. 3 due to increased efficiencies in RSD procedures.
“It is an honor to serve alongside those who have a steadfast commitment in improving processes and service for all public employees,” said Treasurer Briner. “The expedited e-delivery of year-end tax documents for our retired members demonstrates the clear vision, purpose and priorities of staff. I applaud their efforts, and my goal is to build on this foundation of excellence.”
The North Carolina Retirement System is the ninth-largest public pension fund in the country and regarded as one of the best funded in the nation. It provides retirement benefits and savings for more than 1 million North Carolinians, including teachers, state employees, local government workers, firefighters, police officers and other public workers. It is currently valued at $127 billion.
