SMITHFIELD – The Triangle East Chamber of Commerce has announced the semifinalists for the 37th annual Triangle East ATHENA International Leadership Award. This prestigious award will be presented on October 10, 2024 to an exceptional individual who has demonstrated excellence in her business or profession, served the community in a meaningful way, and supported other women in
achieving their professional goals and leadership potential.
The following semi finalists will be recognized at the Awards Dinner being held at the Selma Civic Center:
Melissa Blackwell, Superintendent of Neuse Charter School of Johnston County. Dr. Blackwell’s 24 year career in education includes time as a classroom teacher, principal and superintendent.
Cindy Brookshire is a regional representative for the North Carolina Writers’ Network and an advisor to Triangle East Writers. Her works include A Heart for Selma, Little Towns, and Johnston County Creates: 50 Years of Creativity (as a contributing writer). She coordinates weekly Activate Selma meetings at various locations in Selma.
Suzanne Ross, Small Business Center Director at Johnston Community College and the North Central Regional Director for the North Carolina Community College system. Ms. Ross has a background in education, business ownership, and marketing.
Shannon Sellers, CEO and owner of Showing My Roots, a business dedicated to coaching and consulting women navigating life transitions. Shannon founded Showing My Roots with a passion for empowering women. In 2023, she completed the Launch JoCo program, graduating at the top of her class and earning a prestigious scholarship award.
Gabriella Terry, CEO of Chefella’s LLC, has over 10 years of experience in hospitality, including work with Marriott. She founded the ‘Chef In The Community’ program to support the homeless and advocates for minority equality. In 2022, she launched JUMP Ministries, offering free mentorship to women business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.
