A Johnston County trooper escaped serious injury after his patrol car overturned Tuesday morning while pursuing a speeding driver.
Around 7:15am, Trooper Harrison Nazal was running radar on US70 Business near Clayton and clocked a vehicle traveling at 90mph in a 55mph zone. Trooper Nazal turned around and attempted to overtake the speeding motorist.
As the fleeing car turned onto Olive Road, the trooper attempted to make the right hand turn, but ran off the roadway, traveled down an embankment and overturned on its side.
The officer was transported to the hospital for evaluation. He will not face any charges.
Authorities did not release a description of the vehicle or driver which managed to elude apprehension. WTSB Photos
