Trooper Shoots Armed Suspect During Traffic Stop

Update 6:45PM – Authorities have identified Darius Jayquan Rogers, 20, of Clayton as the suspect shot by the state trooper.  Rogers was transported to Wake Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition.

Sgt. J. M. Dorsey, a 15-year veteran stationed in Troop C, District 2 (Wayne County) attempted to stop Mr. Rogers for speeding.  Dorsey has been placed on administrative duty pending an internal investigation which is agency protocol in any trooper-involved shooting.


Update 3:00PM –
The NC Highway Patrol says a trooper stopped a Nissan passenger vehicle for traveling 96 mph in a 55 mph zone on US 70 near Edwards Road around 1:00PM.

During the traffic stop, an altercation ensued with the driver of the Nissan, who was armed with a handgun.  As a result, the driver was shot by the trooper.  Authorities on scene immediately began life-saving procedures until emergency medical staff arrived.  The driver was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.  The trooper was not injured.  The driver was the only occupant in the Nissan and no other suspects are being sought.

The State Highway Patrol has requested the State Bureau of Investigation to investigate, along with their own separate internal investigation, which is protocol in all trooper-involved shootings.


PRINCETON – A state trooper shot a suspect during a traffic stop on Highway 70 in Johnston County this afternoon (Thursday).

The shooting occurred around 1:00PM near the Johnston-Wayne County line on US 70 in Princeton.   Both directions of US 70 have been shut down while the incident is being investigated.

The individual who was shot was rushed by Johnston County EMS ambulance to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

The name of the individual and the trooper was not immediately released.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and Princeton Police are on the scene.  Multiple state troopers have also responded.
