Troopers Cite Driver Following Highway 210 Crash

The driver of a BMW sport utility vehicle was cited for failure to reduce speed following a two vehicle accident September 12th at 3:55pm. The accident happened on Highway 210 about 6 miles west of Smithfield.

Troopers said a 2020 BMW driven by Deborah Alford Foote, 61, of Smithfield and a 1998 Ford SUV driven by Tyler Shane Baker, 25, of Smithfield were both traveling eastbound on Highway 210. As Baker began to slow to make a right turn into the driveway of his home, Foote failed to reduce speed and steered to the right to avoid striking a trailer being towed behind the Ford.

The BMW ran off the roadway and struck a ditch culvert and the right side of the Ford, before coming to rest on top of the Ford SUV after impact.

Both drivers were checked out at the scene by Johnston County EMS paramedics but declined transport to the hospital.

Trooper D.P. Tucker cited Foote with failure to reduce speed.
