The Highway Patrol has filed charges against a driver they say caused a serious three car accident Saturday afternoon near Clayton. The wreck happened at 3:14pm at the intersection of Powhatan Road and Glen Laurel Road.
Trooper said a 1995 Toyota operated by Sonya Lynette Arthur, 49, of Benson was traveling eastbound on Powhatan Road and was attempting to make a left turn onto Glen Laurel Road. Arthur failed to yield and turned into the path of a 2015 Honda traveling westbound on Powhatan Road and driven by Alecia Michelle Brothers, 34, of Clayton. The impact caused the 1995 Toyota to also strike a 2019 Toyota SUV which was stationary at the stop sign on Glen Laurel Road. The 2019 Toyota was driven by Vanessa Beth Passante-Phelan, 36, of Clayton.
As a result of the collision, Arthur and Brothers were injured along with one of two passengers in the Honda, Demosthenes Brothers, 39, of Clayton. Arthur was taken by ambulance to Wake Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Alecia and Demosthenes Brothers were treated at the scene for their injuries but declined transport to the hospital. Passante-Phelan, the driver of the 2019 Toyota, and a minor child in her SUV were not injured.
Damage to the 1995 Toyota was estimated at $5,000. Damage to the Honda was placed at $4,500 and damage to the 2019 Toyota at $3,500.
Trooper D.L. Purdie charged Sonya Arthur with an unsafe movement violation.
