SAMPSON COUNTY – The State Highway Patrol has released the identity of a man killed in a motorcycle accident on N. Spring Branch Road near Alderman Road in the Plainview community.
Joseph Larry Edwards, age 36, of Glover Road, Dunn died in the accident, reported at 8:41pm Sunday.
Troopers said Edwards was operating a small motorcycle northbound on N. Spring Branch Road when he suddenly lost control and was ejected.
Authorities said the collision was initially thought to be a hit and run, but after initial review of video footage from a nearby church, troopers do not believe any other vehicles were involved.
Speed and equipment failure on the motorcycle are suspected as contributing factors. Edwards was not wearing a DOT approved helmet.
The investigation remains ongoing.
