Troopers Identify Victim Killed In US 701 Crash

The NC Highway Patrol says speed was a contributing factor in a fatal single vehicle accident Sunday afternoon on US 701 South in southern Johnston County, about 5 miles north of Newton Grove.

Around 3:27pm, troopers said a red 2003 Ford Thunderbird convertible driven by Steven Sheak, 63, of Kenly ran off the roadway to the right and overturned.

A passenger, Carmen Ramos, 66, of Wilson, died at the scene from injuries she sustained in the accident.

Mr. Sheak was transported to Wake Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. Charges against Sheak are pending.

According to troopers, Sheak was traveling at an unsafe speed for the rainy conditions when the wreck occurred.
