Crash Near Four Oaks Critically Injured Benson Man Riding Motorcycle
A Benson man was critically injured after his motorcycle was struck by a hit and run driver Monday afternoon near Four Oaks.
Emergency crews responded to the 6:22pm crash on Elevation Road near Gum Swamp Road outside the Four Oaks city limits. A witness heard the collision and noticed a vehicle speeding away westbound on Elevation Road. The witness said it sounded like two vehicles were involved in the collision. Neither remained at the scene.
The Highway Patrol said it appears Bobby Locklear of Benson was operating his motorcycle on Elevation Road when he was rear-ended. It caused him to lose control of his motorcycle and crash. Locklear sustained critical injuries and was transported to Wake Medical Center
A motorist who arrived on the scene about 2 minutes after the crash had a dash camera on their vehicle. The camera captured images of a minivan and pickup truck that may have witnessed the crash. Troopers want to identify the possible witnesses to see if they have any information about the hit and run vehicle. The drivers of the two vehicles are believed to be possible witnesses and not persons of interest in the crash.
Anyone who may know the identity of the drivers of these two vehicles or has information about the hit and run vehicle or vehicles is asked to contact Trooper D.T. Sharpe at the NC Highway Patrol Smithfield District Office at 919-934-2186 or the Raleigh Communication Center at 919-733-3861. Callers may remain anonymous.
