Truck Loaded With Bottles Overturns

A tractor trailer loaded with empty Rum bottles overturned on Interstate 40 in Johnston County Friday morning bottlenecking traffic for several hours.

The single vehicle accident occurred on the eastbound side of I-40 near the 317 mile marker not far from the McGee’s Crossroads / Highway 210 Exit.

The truck was headed from Kernersville, NC to Florida with a load of rum bottles when the driver lost control and the truck overturned on its side on the shoulder of the interstate.  The driver was not injured but the accident blocked one of the two eastbound lanes for several hours until the truck and trailer could be uprighted and towed away.

Officials said the bottles would all be recycled.

The driver was cited by state troopers with failing to maintain lane control.
