Witnesses said it was a miracle the driver of this pickup truck was able to walk away from this violent crash Monday night.
Around 8:45pm, a pickup truck was traveling westbound on US 70 near Selma when it ran off the roadway and struck the Buffalo Road bridge.
The truck came to rest on its side lodged against a concrete barrier and the bridge pillar.
The driver was able to climb from the vehicle before emergency crews arrived on the scene. The driver was taken by ambulance to Wake Medical Center for treatment of possible serious injuries.
Engineers with the NC Department of Transportation responded to check out the bridge. The Selma Fire Department and Selma EMS also responded to the scene. The NC Highway Patrol is still investigating. Photos by John Payne.
