Two County Chase Ends With Crash

A Johnston County man is facing numerous charges following a two county high speed chase Sunday afternoon.  It started on Sumac Court in Clayton. Clayton Police were responding to a domestic incident around 3:00pm. The suspect was leaving the residence and attempted to ram a Clayton patrol car.

Police pursued the vehicle into Downtown Clayton and then into Wake County but discontinued the chase due to safety concerns.

A short time later, a Wake County trooper spotted the vehicle on Barwell Road and the vehicle fled from the officer.  The fleeing driver crashed his SUV on Rock Quarry Road at Riverbrooke Drive and fled on foot. Wake County deputies and Raleigh Police joined troopers who detained the uncooperative suspect following a brief manhunt.

James Michael Caldwell, 35, of Sunray Drive, Clayton is facing several charges including fleeing to elude arrest, failure to stop for a blue light and siren, and reckless driving. More charges are expected. Photos by JoCoFire.com
