Investigation continuing

Two people, including an Angier teenager, were killed after a fiery crash on Abbattoir Road near Coats.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Mellott, 19-year-old Geremiah Anthony Olvera was traveling north around 7:06 p.m. Monday on Abbattoir Road 1.4 miles north of Coats in a 2011 Dodge SUV when the driver of a 2006 Ford Van owned by Ask Woodworks of Zebulon crossed the center line and struck his vehicle head-on.

Shortly after the two vehicles collided the van burst into flames taking the lives of both drivers. No other contributing factors into the crash are known at this time and Mr. Olvera was not at fault ,according to Trooper Mellott.

The name and gender of the driver of the van is being withheld until family members can be contacted and a positive identification by the medical examiner can be made.

“The Highway Patrol makes every effort to keep the best interests of both families in mind during an investigation of this nature,” Trooper Mellott said. “Currently investigators are reaching out to other states for assistance in the investigation.”
