Two Smithfield residents were injured when their SUV slammed head on into a tree Monday afternoon. The single vehicle accident was reported at 2:59pm on Turnage Road between Wilson’s Mills Road and Highway 70.
According to the NC Highway Patrol, Shaniqua Danzell Duff of Smithfield was traveling westbound in a 2013 Hyundai SUV when the vehicle ran off the roadway in a curve and collided head on with a tree approximately 28 feet off the roadway.
Duff and a passenger, Clyde Ward of Smithfield, were transported to Wake Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The accident occurred briefly after a heavy rainstorm moved through the area and the driver may have hydroplaned on the wet pavement.
