Two Injured When SUV Slams Into Truck Traveling In Reverse

Two people were sent to the hospital with injuries after a Kia SUV and Ford Ranger pickup truck collided on the US 70 Clayton Bypass around 9:40am Thursday (today).

Initial unconfirmed reports indicate an eastbound small pickup truck carrying furniture lost a set of box springs on the US 70 Bypass near the Cornwallis Bridge overpass in Johnston County.  Instead of exiting the highway, the driver of the pickup reportedly drove in reverse in the travel lane to retrieve the lost item.

However, a red KIA driving in the same lane immediately slammed into the rear of the pickup truck and overturned at least 2 times.  Both drivers were conscious and alert when transported to Wake Med.

Debris was scattered over a wide area and both eastbound lanes were temporarily shut down. Charges are pending.
