BENSON – The State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that killed two people. The 1:11am Friday accident occurred on Highway 50 just north of Highway 210 near Church Road.
Troopers said the male driver was traveling southbound on Highway 50 in a 2002 Chevy 2500 pickup at a high rate of speed when he ran off the road to the left and collided with an uprooted tree. The impact was so severe the truck was nearly split in half. After impact the vehicle burst into flames.
The driver and a female passenger were killed.
Highway 50 was closed until 4:30am.
