Two Killed In Fiery Single-Vehicle Crash In Sampson County
SAMPSON COUNTY – Two people were killed Saturday night in a single-vehicle crash on NC 411 (Harrells Highway) just east of Garland, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Trooper A.T. Cox responded to the crash at approximately 6:36 p.m. The investigation determined that a 2006 Toyota Sequoia was traveling eastbound at a very high rate of speed when the driver ran off the right side of the roadway. After reentering the highway, the vehicle crossed the centerline and ran off the left side of the road into a ditch.
The vehicle continued across the ditch, struck a power pole—bringing down power lines—and then collided with a large tree. After the impact, the vehicle caught fire and was completely destroyed by the blaze.
The driver was identified as Marcedo Allen McNeil, 33, of Stedman. The passenger was identified as Reginald K. Howard, 39, of Harrells. Due to the extensive fire damage, it was not possible to determine whether either man was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Both men died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
