Archer Lodge Town leaders will decide in January who will be named to fill out the unexpired term of Councilman Carlton Vinson who suddenly resigned from the town board in November. During Monday night’s monthly meeting, the council discussed the vacancy.

Councilman Mark Wilson nominated Debbie Barnes for the seat.  Wilson said Mrs. Barnes has the background and experience to help the council especially in the areas of finance and budgeting.  “She would be well qualified for the seat.” Barnes, the first female candidate for a seat on the Archer Lodge town board, ran unsuccessfully in 2015.

Councilman Matt Mulhollen nominated Teresa Bruton for the seat. Mulhollen said Bruton, who is the current Archer Lodge Planning Board Chair since its inception, works for the NC Department of Transportation and is familiar with the towns ordinance and has been in a leadership role on the planning board.  “She is a very capable leader and would be a fine addition to this council,” Mulhollen said during the nomination.

Mayor Michael Gordon ask the council to take the next several weeks and talk with the candidates and return in January to fill the seat.

Vinson served on the town’s committee to incorporate, became a charter town board member and won election to a second term in 2013.  His replacement will be up for reelection in November 2017.
