Two People Arrested After Officer Spots Suspicious Vehicle

SMITHFIELD – Two people were arrested by Smithfield Police after an officer on routine patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle.

At approximately 10:23pm Monday, an officer saw a car backed up to a dumpster in the parking lot of the Salvation Army at 309 N. Brightleaf Boulevard.

After approaching the car, a 2017 Nissan, the officer reportedly saw drug paraphernalia in plain sight.

A police K-9 responded to the scene and alerted on the Nissan. During a search of the interior, approximately 11.3 grams of suspected methamphetamine was located.

Todd Michael McCourt, age 44, and Jennifer Brook Dixon Hayes, age 38, of the 5500 block of US 301 South, Four Oaks were charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. McCourt and Hayes were processed at the Johnston County Detention Center and both given a $2,500 bond.

  1. This is crazy. So they had almost 12 grams of meth and only got a 2500 bond wow. Let that have been a black person with only marijuana on them The bond would have been 75,000

  2. So many drug addicts are just popping up more and more since the election. It’s almost like they’re getting the drugs on this side of the border. Trump crime is crazy.

    Especially when .1 + 4 addys (first offense ever) = felony possession plus 2 more felony’s AND 15,000$ secured smfh
