WILLOW SPRING – A neighbor reported there was a large explosion, followed by a fire, at an auto repair shop on Pearidge Road in the Willow Spring area in western Johnston County.
Two men working in the shop were seriously injured and transferred to the UNC burn center in Chapel Hill. Their conditions are unknown.
At least seven fire departments responded to the fire around 11:00am Friday. The building and numerous vehicles were destroyed.
There were no fire hydrants in the area, so a water shuttle utilizing tankers from multiple fire departments was utilized to provide water to battle the blaze.
The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
Prayers for the injured for full recovery.
Praying for those hurt and involved!
Side note, the closest fire station (3.3 miles), Fuquay Station 3 was never dispatched… Really need to work on Auto Aid agreements in this County.
I was cutting grass on Jackson King Rd and saw the huge first cloud of grey smoke erupt into the air. I knew it was serious based on the shape and quick eruption of smoke. Immediately prayed for the people involved.
Wish we could get a follow up on this. How are the injured? What caused the explosion and fire?
