SMITHFIELD – Two pounds of marijuana showed up at the front door of a Smithfield home.
On June 29, Smithfield Police responded to an address on Sussex Drive for a report of a suspicious package. The homeowner was not expecting a delivery when a small box showed up.
The resident reported the package had a “funny smell” so he called police. When the package was opened it contained two vacuum sealed bags of marijuana, weighing a total of two pounds.
Police said the package had been mailed from Medford, Oregon, through the US Postal Service, to a house number on Sussex Drive in Smithfield that did not exist. The postal carrier reportedly left the package at the closest house number, and that resident called police.
Officers said the recipient’s name on the package was checked through a police database but no one by that name lives in the area. Nearby residents questioned by police did not recognize the name of the person. The name was not released.
Police seized the marijuana until it could be destroyed.
The investigation into the unclaimed weed delivery has been closed.

The postal worker should be reprimanded or fired for leaving the package at the wrong house. I can see all kinds of complications caused by this, especially since it was drugs.

So what you are saying is do your job wrong with no consequences. Sounds like a Federal Job to me. I agree should have to bring it back if no address that is why people cant get their own mail. People have no care about their jobs.

Just make marijuana legal everywhere – for adults. I would rather have marijuana bars than bars that serve alcohol. Alcohol and cigarettes kill so many people – one way or another -but for some reason people don’t want to make them illegal.
Just make fentanyl legal everywhere….so many people are doing it, and other things kill some much more, so what’s the problem?! /s

People are not overdosing on pot unless it would be laced with a drug like fentanyl. I would rather be around someone taking gummies or eating pot brownies than drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes.
