Two Johnston County schools will have new names and new mascots.
When renovations are completed at the old North Johnston Middle School this year, it will open as an elementary school this fall. At the urging of the Micro Town Council and Mayor Jay Warren, who adopted a resolution on Feb. 16, 2016, the Board of Education this week agreed to name the school Micro Elementary. The mascot will be changed to the Black Widows. The school colors will be black and gold. When Micro School first opened it had the Black Widows mascot.
With the opening of the Micro Elementary School, all of the students who live in the Town of Micro will no longer attend Micro-Pine Level Elementary in Pine Level starting with the 2016-17 school year in the fall. The school board agreed to rename Micro-Pine Level as Pine Level Elementary School with their mascot being changed to the Green Hornets.
The name and mascot was requested by the Town of Pine Level and Mayor Jeff Holt in a resolution adopted Jan. 8, 2016.
