The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has not ruled out two shooting incidents in the Bell Hope Mobile Home Park are related.
Around 1:30am Monday, deputies responded to the mobile home park, located on Swift Creek Road outside of Smithfield.
A 53 year-old man reported that he heard about 6 gunshots fired. When he looked outside he saw where his car had been struck by some of the bullets.
Deputies were then summoned to a nearby home where a bullet had pierced the wall of a mobile home. A 24 year-old woman who was inside was not struck but it did strike a cable TV line.
Sheriff’s Captain A.C. Strickland said detectives are following up on leads in the case. A motive has not been determined.
Damage to the victim’s car was estimated at $3,000 and damage to the home was placed at $400.
