SELMA – Two vehicles collided at the intersection of NC 42 East and NC 96 North, sending a silver minivan onto its side.

Two occupants in the minivan were seat belted and uninjured. The driver of the other vehicle was also not injured in the 8:00am Wednesday accident.

The intersection is currently a four-way stop and is being upgraded to a roundabout in order to reduce the number of collisions at the location.

The State Highway Patrol, North Side Fire and Johnston County EMS responded to the crash.

  1. It’s not rocket physics, it’s a four way stop meaning, stop first but every time I get to this particular 4 way, I see people either confused and/or just absolutely selfish and in a hurry, putting other people in danger. For those who don’t understand the concept, you can actually Google it or go to NCDMV website for instruction. I can’t really say for sure but it’s starting to look like you can just come to NC, pay the fee and drive because there are a lot of clueless drivers on the road. I drive 13 hrs a day all over eastern NC and all I see is bad drivers, distracted drivers, drivers under the influence and no enforcement.

      • A million times YES! Four-way stops do nothing but lower gas mileage. Also, most people don’t understand that the vehicle to the right has the right-of-way when they arrive simultaneously. The roundabout going there is ridiculous too. IMO

      • Totally agree, but for the same reasons that the 4 way isn’t stopping the accidents, the standard two way didn’t either. It’s people not doing what they should be doing.

  2. I never understood how 4 way stops confuse people. Slow down, pay attention and wait your turn. There is NO WHERE you need to be that can’t wait the 1 minute it takes you to wait and safely proceed.
