Unidentified Substance Found Inside Package Sent To Benson-Area Home
BENSON — What began as a routine mail delivery quickly turned into a law enforcement investigation after a Benson-area resident opened a package and discovered a white powdery substance inside.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the suspicious package, which was delivered Feb. 26 to a home on DJ Drive off Old Fairground Road.
According to authorities, the homeowner opened the parcel and found a zip-lock plastic bag containing an unknown white powder. Deputies were contacted, and the package along with its contents was collected and seized as evidence.
Officials have not publicly identified the substance.
The same resident reported recently receiving a separate package in the mail containing items related to Narcan, a medication commonly used to reverse opioid overdoses. It is unclear whether the two mailings are connected.
Authorities have not released additional details as they continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the deliveries.
