A 2 year-old child shot with a 9mm handgun while sitting in a car remains in stable condition today at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Authorities said Wednesday the shooting was accidental and committed by the child.
At 7:47pm Monday, Harnett County deputies responded to the shooting inside a stationary car on Crest Circle in Spring Lake. The child sustained a gunshot wound to his upper right leg. He was rushed to Womack Medical Center in Fayetteville then transferred to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. The toddler underwent surgery on Tuesday.
Investigators said the handgun was stored in the glovebox by the child’s father. The glovebox was not locked at the time. The child was seated in the front passenger seat while the mother was seated in the driver’s seat talking with her cousin who was standing at the driver door.
Sheriff’s Captain Joseph Webb said no charges have been filed and the incident remains under investigation.

How engrossed in a conversation can you be, while sitting right to your child, not to notice that he got a gun out of the glovebox?!
Its called child neglect. and not having a weapon secured when some of us do it. makes you wonder why someone is not charged. if this person cant be responsible with a child sitting beside them, they dont need a child.
Why was the child in the front seat unsupervised the child shouldn’t be in the front seat at first cause he was to young to be in the front seat he could’ve been killed from the airbags
