Update 4:33pm – Both lane of Highway 70 Business have reopened to traffic.
SMITHFIELD – An accident involving an over height vehicle has closed both directions of Highway 70 Business between Smithfield and Clayton Tuesday afternoon.
The accident was reported around 3:20pm on Highway 70 Business just west of Swift Creek Road.
A truck hauling an over height load struck a utility line, causing the line to fall across both the east and westbound lanes.
Law enforcement is on the scene detouring traffic until the power line can be removed.
No injuries were reported but at least one vehicle was damaged by the falling power line.
