Update: DWI Charges Filed In Clayton Crash

Driver Still Hospitalized Recovering From Serious Injuries

A 22-year-old Angier man is facing additional charges after he lost control of his truck last Thursday night along Glen Laurel Road and crashed, flipped and became trapped inside.

Rony Lainex Avila is charged with driving while intoxicated, driving on a revoked license, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane control, injury to personal property, and injury to trees/crops/land.

Clayton Police estimate Avila was traveling about 65 mph when he was approaching Oak Alley Trail and the entrance of Summerlyn and East Clayton Community Park.  He ran off the shoulder in his Chevy Silverado truck and hit the 45mph speed limit sign on the side of Glen Laurel Road. He also hit the concrete culvert pipe on the shoulder causing about $7,800 for NC DOT and about $3,500 damage to the landscaping for the Summerlyn Community HOA.

The Clayton Fire Department cut Avila out of his overturned truck and Johnston County EMS rushed him to Wake Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. At last check he was still hospitalized recovering from those injuries. No one else was involved or injured in the crash.  Photos by John Payne
