SELMA – Because of the rain, the NC Department of Transportation has postponed the closure of I-95 near Selma to remove an old digital sign that stretches across the interstate.
The NCDOT has originally planned to close I-95 in both directions early Friday morning, January 26. The work has been rescheduled for next week, from 12:01am to 5:00am, Friday Feb. 2.
The detour will affect both directions of the interstate at mile marker 100, which is a few miles north of Selma. During this five-hour closure, drivers will be directed to get on and off at Exit 97 (US 70) and Exit 101 (Pittman Road) and use US 301, which is parallel to the interstate.
The digital message sign stretches over the highway, is outdated and has reached its useful life. Recently, a new digital message sign has been installed on one side of I-95 near this location.
Drivers should use caution while crews are working and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
