Update: Second Murder Suspect In Custody

19 year-old Quashaad Powell surrendered to authorities in Wake County Tuesday afternoon. He is now in the Johnston County Jail facing murder and assault with a deadly weapon charges.

A second person is in custody on first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon charges.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said 19 year-old Quashaad Powell surrendered to authorities in Wake County around 3:30pm this afternoon (Tuesday).   Powell had been wanted for the shooting death of 15 year-old Kaylen Marion Middleton and the wounding of 20 year-old Desmond Tyrese Barnes. The drive-by shooting happened around 1:30am Saturday at 103 Blackthorne Court, off Cleveland Road.

The first suspect 18 year-old Joshua Caleb Draughon of Garner was arrested Monday after he arrived at the Wake County Courthouse in Raleigh on unrelated charges.

In a press release Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said, “The third suspect in this case has not been identified and no additional information is available at this time.”
