Update: Smithfield Murder Suspect Apprehended

Update: The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office announced at 4:28pm that Cody Lloyd Carmody was in custody and has been charged with first degree murder. No additional details were released by authorities.

SMITHFIELD – Law enforcement officers are searching for a suspect wanted in connection with the overnight murder of a Smithfield man.

Around 10:30pm, Johnston County deputies responded to an assault at 1516 Braswell Road. When officers arrived on the scene they discovered the victim, 31 year-old Joshua Todd Biedekapp of the same address, deceased.  Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell did not release details on how Biedekapp was killed but said he was attacked resulting in his death.

The suspect in the attack, Cody Lloyd Carmody, 24, whose last known address was on Sunray Drive, off Rock Pillar Road, between Smithfield and Clayton fled from the Braswell Road murder scene before officers arrived.  Warrants have been obtained for Carmody’s arrest charging him with first degree murder in the death of Joshua Biedekapp.

A motive for the homicide was not immediately disclosed.
