A collision between a tractor trailer and Jeep caused a significant fuel spill Tuesday morning, prompting the temporary closure of Highway 70 at Interstate 95 in Selma.
Around 9:30am, a semi, operated by Rooks Farm Service from Rocky Point, NC was exiting off I-95 to travel westbound on US70. According to Selma Police, a gray Jeep was traveling eastbound and failed to stop for a red light colliding with the side of the truck. The impact ruptured the fuel tank on the truck, causing approximately 75 gallons of diesel fuel to spill onto the roadway.
The Selma and Pine Level Fire Departments, with the assistance of Johnston County Emergency Management, and the NC Department of Transportation, were able to contain the leak.
No injuries were reported.
