CLAYTON – A Johnston County public school bus was involved in a two vehicle accident Friday afternoon. The collision was reported at 4:51pm on Highway 42 East at US 70 in Clayton.
Clayton Police Chief Greg Tart said Bus 607, from East Clayton Elementary School, was traveling on Highway 42 East from US 70 Business West when it was rear-ended by a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 28 year old Cristian Guevara at the railroad crossing.
Chief Tart said there were nine occupants on the bus, eight children ages 5-13, and the bus driver, 36 year-old Skyteria Stewart. There were no injuries from the bus, or Mr. Guevara.
Guevara was cited for following too closely and failure to reduce speed.
The outside lane turning from Highway 70 to Highway 42 East was blocked until the wreck could be cleared, but the inside lane remained open.
Nine Johnston County EMS ambulances responded to the scene, along with Clayton Police and Clayton Fire Department
So thankful that no one was injured and for the great response from emergency services. Wonderful to hear so many units responded to assess the children and drivers!
