SELMA – According to authorities, a 16 year-old driver was fortunate to walk away from his wrecked Jeep uninjured, on Highway 39 North, Wednesday night.
The driver lost control, went through a ditch, struck a power pole and overturned before landing upright in the front yard of a home, two miles north of Highway 42 East.
The broken power pole with a Duke Energy area-light was left lying on the ground with the bright light still on and the energized wire draped across the highway. The roadway was shut down for more than two hours before crews were able to turn the power off and remove the line.
Power crews worked overnight to replace the broken pole and restore power to one home.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the 7:45pm accident.
